raffle
Elly asked:

We were wondering if it was legal to have a raffle to raffle off our horse that we have been trying to sell for three years. We have tried everything to sell her. She’s in great health and is 12 yrs old.
We have tried lowering the price all the way down to $800, but then people think there is something wrong with her.

A raffle? try just lowering your price until you sell the horse. Perhaps you are not advertising enough. Try advertising in the paper, in your local feed shops, and at horse arenas, riding clubs etc.

yes, this is common! Most people put ads in the paper, usually charging 100 dollars and the best story as to why you should have “our home”. Then when you have reached your deadline date, you pick the best story and give them the house. Set a deadline of 6mo or more to insure that you make more than 100 bucks. Sometimes these stories make national news. You can promote it by calling your local paper and news stations and telling them you have a story.
Send me the detials when you go forth,

Never lower the price. It gives a perception of low quality.Try and post an ad.Ads are free, and millions of people will see your ad.Consider donating the horse to a farm where disabled children can benefit from riding him. It’s a great tax deduction.Good Luck.
